Alan Bergman: “Besides being gifted with intelligence and heart and so forth, they [Sinatra, Astaire, Garland] almost never overwhelm the song with their style. They’re always interpreting the song and not stomping it to death. It’s about them, and the communication, but the song always comes through. When style overcomes substance, you lose it, and these people hardly ever do that.”
