Bing Crosby: “In this country we like to tell youngsters that the way to succeed is by hard work and self-sacrifice. If you read my story, it’ll be obvious to you – it’s obvious to me – that I haven’t worked very hard. The things I’ve done are the things I’ve wanted to do. Doing them was no great sacrifice. And I’ve been heavily paid for having fun while I did them. Singing or movie acting has never been drudgery for me. So I don’t know that my story contains an inspirational point of view. However, it is certainly shot full of another American commodity – luck.”
