Prokofiev: “(…) I had a third line of reasoning up my sleeve: in my life I have often been faced with important and responsible moments such as not everyone is fated to undergo but many would give much to experience. If to such moments I react with anxiousness and hysteria, how will I be able to make use of them? How much better to accept them with gladness and a clear understanding! This approach seemed to me the most intelligent and persuasive: I could find no legitimate objection to it, but took hold of it and resolved to put it into action today.” (Diary entry on the day of his American debut, New York 1918)
