Grieg: “I think it is the time you live in that gives you its whack. It incites you to imagine that you belong to it. But neither you nor I do that, my friend! We are romantics both, and if for the moment our times seem to have no use for romance in poetry, it would be weak or cowardly to disown it on that account. That brings its own severe punishment, since one makes a muddle of one’s own nature that way. Romance will come back sooner than anyone suspects.” (in a letter to a friend, 1887)
